Rei ni hajimari, rei ni owaru. Begin with respect, end with respect. This is karate etiquette — but it extends beyond the dojo. FAQ's
What does Rei mean?
Rei (礼) means respect or etiquette in Japanese. The phrase 礼に始まり礼に終わる (rei ni hajimari rei ni owaru) translates to "begin with respect and end with respect" — a fundamental principle in karate and all martial arts. It represents the idea that how you enter and exit any situation matters as much as what happens in between.
What is a kamon?
Kamon (家紋) are traditional Japanese family crests that date back centuries. Historically used by samurai families to represent their lineage and values, kamon are geometric symbols with deep cultural significance.
Our design offers a modern interpretation of this tradition, representing the spirit of the shared values of respect and discipline.
Is there a difference between the Rei and other collections?
Each Shisa collection explores different martial arts principles. The Rei Collection focuses on etiquette and respect, the Kō Collection on continuous refinement, and the Duality Collection on balance of opposing forces. All share our commitment to quality and meaningful design.
What is SHISA?
The brand takes its name from Okinawan mythology. Okinawa, Japan -
the birthplace of Karate - is home to traditional guardian figures
called shisa, protective beings that ward off evil spirits and bring
good fortune.
